Addressing the economic climate of downtown is a fourth element that is critical to successful downtown revitalization. Through the Main Street Program, communities work towards retention of existing businesses and recruitment of new businesses.

Goal:

To define the central business district as an economic powerhouse in Marshalltown with inviting and successful businesses offering a variety of shopping, entertainment and dining opportunities.

Objectives:

1. Encourage consistent shopping hours that are more favorable to customers.
2. Develop financial incentives to aid business and property owners.
3. Assess parking demand and inform businesses and consumers.
4. Determine residential and business opportunities for upper stories.
5. Increase the profitability of existing businesses and property owners.
6. Explore the need and viability for new or expanded stores and services.
