The Holiday Stroll tradition continued on Main Street Friday - and another piece of history returned.
In preparation for the annual kickoff to the holiday season, most of Main Street's new antique streetlights
were put in place within the last week.
"If you look at the historic pictures, these are almost exactly like the lights they had back in the '30s,"
said Tom Curley, Main Street volunteer.
Friday's event was the best way to present the antique lights to the community, according to Marshalltown Main Street
Director Jim Harken.
"We've got thousands of people out tonight," he said. "What better way to do it?"

Millie Frese came to the Holiday Stroll with her daughter Rebekah, who is 8.
"It's a great way to kick off the holiday season - start off with some Christmas lights and see what fun
things there are to buy for Christmas," Millie said.
Her daughter said she was having fun.
"You listen to people play instruments and listen to people sing," she said.
Briana Black, 5, said her favorite part of the event was the Christmas trees.
"The decorations sparkle," she said. "It's really shiny."
Sen. Larry McKibben, R-Marshalltown, said he brought his grandchildren to Holiday Stroll to see Santa Claus.
"They have already sat on Santa Claus' lap," he said.
Sue Cahill said she and others rang a bell for The Salvation Army to support Howard Dean, since this presidential
candidate and governor of Vermont encourages volunteerism.
"We thought this would be a good way to show our support for Dean Ñ by being involved in a community
event," she said.
Bianca Greazel came to Holiday Stroll with her husband Lance and their 4-month-old son Grant.
"We came out here to see all of the Marshalltown residents and enjoy ourselves before the holidays," Bianca
said. "It's a nice way to kick off the holiday season."
